Roof cleaning in Belfast and Lisburn

Northern Ireland weather grows moss on roofs faster than almost anywhere. It starts on the shaded north-facing side, spreads down the tiles, and ends up in the gutters and downpipes. Left long enough it holds water against the tile, blocks the drainage and takes years off the roof.

We clean roofs with a stainless steel rotary surface cleaner on the end of a telescopic pole. The head sits flat against the tile and the jets work inside a steel shroud, so the cleaning happens in a controlled area instead of being blasted across the roof. It works from the ground or from a safe position, and it takes the moss off evenly rather than in patches.

Why we never put a pressure lance on your roof

A pressure washer aimed at a concrete tile strips the granules off the surface. Those granules are the wearing layer — once they are gone the tile absorbs water, and it will never look right again. High pressure also forces water up under the laps and into the roof space. Any company willing to jet wash your roof at full pressure is costing you more than they are charging you.

Biocide treatment does the rest

After the moss is off, we apply a biocide treatment that kills the spores left in the surface of the tile. That is the part that decides how long the clean lasts. The roof keeps improving for weeks afterwards as the remaining growth dies back and weathers off, so it looks better a month later than it does on the day.

Gutters cleared as part of the job

Cleaning a roof brings a lot of moss down into the guttering, so we clear the gutters and flush the downpipes afterwards as standard. There is no point in doing one without the other, and we are not going to leave you with a blocked roofline and call it finished.
